Its our first day stepping beyond the bounds of Waikiki! We got a jeep on Turo to rent for a few days and we are heading to the windward side of the island for some beginners hiking. I was able to get my hair braided next door at the Hilton Hawaiian Village and thankfully if was one of the best things I did to prepare for all of the wind we had today. We grabbed our gear, a quick meal at Happys to-go and drove up to Makapu’u Lighthouse Trail for our first adventure. The scenery was incredible before we even started. The hike was somewhere between easy and moderate…and definitely a work out if you’re not a routinely active person (like me these days) but we forged on and the view was worth it! We took a quick stop at Bellows Air Force Station to check out some of the lodging we had heard about. Who would have thought the prettiest beaches would be on a military installation?! It was insanely beautiful! We gathered some great information on staying there and hopefully we can do that next time we visit Oahu. The last stop was Diamond Head Crater. It was tough but I think it was mostly because we had already expelled all of our energy on the lighthouse trail. But we powered through and made it to the top! And WOW what a vision! The video will never do it justice so you’ll have to make reservations and do this yourself for the full effect! This day absolutely wore us out in the best way so after we got back to Hale Koa we enjoyed an easy dinner and a quick firework display at the Hilton Hawaiian Village lagoon to end our evening. This was easily one of my favorite days in Hawaii! And one of the windiest! Thanks for coming along with us!
