Tonight is the Luau at Hale Koa Hotel and we are sharing our entire experience with you from the pre-show activities to the food and of course the amazing performances. We started off with Mai-Tai’s only after we were greeted with seashell leis by the traditional hawaiian dancers. We had our pictures taken with them and enjoyed all of the fun activities and demonstrations on the lawn. There was lei making, hula lessons, palm leaf crown making, a demonstration of traditional hawaiian instruments, tattoo stamping and of course the pua ceremony where they uncover the pig from the underground oven (the Imu). We were led to our seats where our tables were ready with fresh appetizers and then served plated dinners complete with pork, steak, chicken, rice, purple sweet potato, squash and crusted fish. It was delicious! After our meal we had a very yummy piece of whipped guava cake! The performances were top notch. We learned a lot about the importance and role of the coconut on the islands. There was also a well told story of Maui and how he acquired the secret of fire before he gave it to Pele, the Goddess of fire. Traditional Polynesian dancers representing each island danced displaying the unique qualities of its people. I think the most breathtaking part was the segment with the fire dancers! It always blows my mind to see them spin fire that fast. We are even lucky enough to have a World Champion Fire and knife dancer on stage for us at Hale Koa! The end of the show was very moving with a tribute to all service members and a special song by Glenn Medeiros. I have to say it was pretty emotional but we truly appreciated the acknowledgement. It was an absolutely incredible show and we both agreed that we would go again next time we visit. Hope you enjoyed our view from the front row! Let us know what you think and if you’ve ever attended this luau at Hale Koa! Thanks for watching!
